Blue Ridge Scout Reservation - Blue Ridge Mtns. Patch Site

The Blue Ridge Scout Reservation is located in rural Pulaski County, Virginia and comprises approximately 17,500 acres. It is the largest council owned reservation in the nation. In 1950 the Blue Ridge Council bought 600 acres of land from Radford College. The council wished to build a new scout camp as the one they presently using was on land rented from the government and was located outside of the council area. On this newly purchased land Camp Powhatan was constructed in 1950. When an opportunity arose in 1957 to purchase additional land the Council through a massive fund raising effort did so at a cost of just $3.68 per acre. Since that time the reservation has expanded to include the two scout camps Powhatan & Ottari, the High Knoll Trail, The New River Adventure Program, Claytor Lake Aquatics Base, Fish Camp, & Mountain Man Outpost.
